Both first aid and survival kits are essential items to be taken on outdoor activities, especially those longer duration (eg- more than 24 hours) activities such as overnight bushwalks.
A first aid kit is designed primarily for treating injuries, illnesses, and medical emergencies. Its goal is to provide immediate care and stabilise the person until professional help is available. A good first aid kit should contain items to treat issues such as bleeding, broken bones, skin complaints such as bites and stings etc.
A survival kit is meant to help someone survive in a challenging environment (e.g., wilderness, natural disaster). It focuses on providing essentials for shelter, warmth, navigation, and sustenance. A good survival kit will be flexible to cater for different physical environments. Commercial survival kits can range from some basic supplies such as a space blanket through to a well stocked kit which can allow an experienced outdoors person to survive for a long period of time. See below for an example of a well sdtocked survival kit.
