Trip or Activity Notification Procedures

It is essential when planning any outdoor activity that someone is notified of where you are going and what you are planning to do.

In NSW each year, approximately 130 bushwalkers are rescued or go missing. This is often due to poor planning. Unfortunately, on occasions, people die as a result, an all too stark reminder of the risks involved in outdoor recreational activities.

If accessing a National Park, it is recommended that the local National Park office is contacted. As well as notifying the rangers or other staff of your plans, important local information can be gathered such as the condition of tracks, height of waterways and fire danger. A trip intention form should be completed for overnight expeditions and left at the local office.

NSW police also work to protect bushwalkers and recommend leaving a plan with an adult who is not part of the expedition. Information on notification procedures can be found on their website.
